I'm experimenting a lot with water, that seems a good way to protect your base and even build over it. if you make a wall to protect your base you can use water to make that wall indestructible, because zombies can't do damage if they are in the water. I have this video showing a fort protected by water walls and I'm building a house in the sky supported only by water pillars. Look for: 7 Days To Die - Water Pillars

The first thing I have to say is zombies can spawn in any place without a roof, even high places if you go far away from the base. So the safest place is still a underground base, but they are boring. If you put a roof on your fort and walkways they will be safer, but zombies can still spawn over them. Another thing is that when you are going to build a roof or any floor, make sure to do a double layer, fat zombies and even you can fall from 1 layer if it has weak integrity.

My view: Going up is far more risky than going down for the simple reason that as long as you have a foundation your building, zombies will be hitting that and you will be forced to spend time either defending or repairing.
In contrast, if you dig down deep enough, zombies will never reach you as they are VERY slow to dig through stone, so all you need to worry about is a small, well protected entrance.

There have been a lot of real-time zombie survival games in the works or coming out recently; Project Zomboid, The Dead Linger, State of Decay, etc. This one however is by far my favorite so far, blending that genre with the MineCraft Genre (not just named after the most popular game in the genre, also because it defines what the Genre is perfectly).

Even if you removed the Zombies, it would be a superior version of Minecraft, and I love Minecraft :)

Just so you know Minecraft was inspired by another game called Infiniminer, so if they didn't copy that game then Minecraft would have never been made.

You need to fill in the gaps between the wooden pillars of the outside barrier so it can be considered an actual fort.

my base is under a hill, zombies have to either climb the hill then dig down to get me or just destroy the whole hill to get me, which im pretty sure will take forever. i spiked the perimeter both on top of the hill and around the hill and made sure the hill is near impossible to climb, so they're forced to bring down the whole hill, while i make an underground tunnel for me to travel around the map without me trying to suicide every time i need to get back into the base

Hundreds of games have been modeled after hundreds of other games. If people were afraid to copy a game model then add their own touches, no game would ever get made.

$35 for the alpha but I believe it will be cheaper with the beta and later.

There is an error with it. Forgive me, I cannot remember where the code to fix it is but you can edit the .xml and gain access to it. Google Barbed Wire Fixes and you should find it.

Best base I have done so far is a bunker at Bedrock level. I do not think the zombies can detect you there. Just protect your entrance hole with walls and barbwire and you should be fine.
