I call it a Nacho Cheese Economy in reference to faking the CPI by substituting cheaper items and then claiming inflation and prices are not going up, meanwhile we all slowly get poorer and poorer.

I think a lot of people take the Fed seriously and the proof of that is how the market responded after the debacle. HOWEVER, I think the Fed is using the enhanced communication of what they are doing to manipulate the market into doing what they want. It’s another tool for them but at some point, like you suggest, fewer people will take them seriously. Look for evidence of stock market not responding much to what Fed says. When you see that you’ll know most traders have started to ignore them.
No-one takes the FED seriously… especially after this debacle!
