Guilty? Yes.
6 to 12 months probation is more than enough.
Send them to Jail 20 years minimum

These guys are the "Snowden" of pathetic security exposure
It's more than trespassing. You get caught sneaking in and having a
sandwich and its trespassing. They are exposing the building and its owners
to risk, then landing on the street, compounding the risk to others.
So misdemeanor charges are appropriate, but a whole bunch of them and if
there is any time to serve, make it consecutive.
Charging them with fraud is telling. The message they want to send is that
the prosecution can over reach and arbitrary punishments will not fit the
crime. Fear our power.

As for the security, I guess they just don't take a terrorist threat to the
world trade center seriously.

Yes.. because lack of security implies "jump off the building".

So they are made an example 6 months after they did the jump. And only
because a teenager also slipped through security. What a load of crap.
Spend the money a trial will cost on the security. They made a video, it's
not like they were hiding and only now they are found. Security messed up
big time twice and instead of fixing that they redirect attention on the
base jumpers.
Oh and sending a message will not work. Base jumpers are thrill seekers. It
will only attract more of them because of the added threat.
Is Jesus single?
I agree with Anna because I do believe if one place should be secure tight
it should be the WTC. And if average civilians are able to sneak in who
know's if there's already a trap in the building.

By "grandpa," you guys mean "mature and intelligent," right?
Why should they be arrested for base jumping? It's a monument, so what? Get
over it. These are just teenagers and young guys base jumping. I do agree
that they trespassed and that's a law and a fair one but that should
warrent any serious time.

Ana seems disproportionately upset about this. Does she come from a family
of base jumpers?
eh, let them go. The world trade center's security shouldn't be so shitty
and if they get away with this then I can see nothing getting done about
the actual security issues.

The more you talk about these base jumpers the more I like em. They totally
should sue because of security, because they probably should have had
better security! XD

Get em Anna. As a freerunner I'm somewhat sympathetic to the base jumpers
but who doesn't know that of all the bad ideas, choosing the WTC is
probably the worst thing you could possibly do. There's bad and then
there's stupid. On the other hand we should be giving them a medal of some
sorts for showing how terrible the security was and how much it needs fixed
before someone we didn't want finding out found out first. You know hacker
logic.
Wow for once it's Ana who's the stupider one.

Slipping past normal security at a construction of a tower is easy...
People do it all the time with many different towers.
I also how Ana instantly assumes towers have top notch security... this
isn't a federal reserve building... This isn't some sort of military
arsenal building... this isn't the FBI headquarters... this is simply a
commercial tower.
I also found it sad how Ana referred to 9/11 as an excuse for these
buildings needing better security... Good security in buildings don't
prevent a major terrorist attack that has nothing to do with internal
building security.

People should face some consequences for committing such actions... the
severity depends of course... I honestly doubt they are gonna get serious
sentences.
Well actually the WTC hasn't been attacked yet. Its still standing
What the fuck is wrong with him, that he thinks it's good for society that
you ARREST people for base jumping.... It is not for their safety, that's
fucking disingenuous.
I find it extremely hard to condemn these people when they doing something
that looks cool as shit.
Base jumpers are to cool to jail, Let Em Go!

Firstly its breaking an entering, its tresspassing on goverment property &
what the fuck are people going to do about the goverment? most of you voted
these people in...
Ana, do you thoroughly think through your arguments before you develop such
strong opinions? If not, wtf are you doing selling opinion and news to
people. If you do, and this is what you come up with than your narcissism
knows no bounds. You seem to identify with some sort of millennial
generation culture, if this is the attitude that culture produces your
parents should be publicly shamed en masse.

The reason they should not face stiffer charges is very simple: the justice
system is not a megaphone for the cops. The law is to be applied equally to
all, and the fact that the NYPD is embarrassed and wants to beat its chest
is completely irrelevant.

Furthermore, what exactly is this message of theirs going to accomplish? It
may well deter other thrill seekers, yes, but the real concern here should
be the vulnerability of the trade center to attack. And anyone bent on
attacking the trade center will give precisely zero shits about their
stiffer penalties.

Stiffer penalties for the thrill seekers is just NYPD's attempt to avoid
future humiliation rather than actually doing their jobs.
